Back in February, Jey Uso shocked the world when he won the 30 man Royal Rumble match. Jey punched his ticket to WrestleMania and he later confirmed that he would be challenging Gunther for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
Night 1 of WrestleMania 41 aired live from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday night and the show kicked off in a big way. Jey Uso and Gunther opened the show as The Ring General defended his title against the Royal Rumble winner.
Jey Uso made his entrance first and he received a massive reaction from the fans as he made his way to the ring through the crowd. After a few minutes Jey managed to hit the first spear of the night, but Gunther kicked out at two. Shortly after Gunther connected with a powerbomb for a two count.
Uso managed to make a comeback and he hit Gunther with another spear followed by an Uso Splash off the top rope. However, it wasn’t enough as Gunther managed to kick out once again. Gunther then rolled out of the ring, grabbed the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and stood at ringside. Jey went for a dive, but he accidentally knocked the ref down and Gunther slammed the WWE World Heavyweight Championship into Jey’s head while the ref wasn’t looking.
Gunther locked in a sleeper hold on Jey who struggled for a while before he made it to the ropes. The Ring General started to get frustrated as he screamed at Jey Uso. Gunther chopped Jey repeatedly and Jey started laughing while he taunted the champion.
They exchanged strikes back and forth a while then Jey finally managed to knock Gunther down with a clothesline. Gunther went for another powerbomb, but Jey countered and took Gunther down with a powerbomb of his own followed by two superkicks and a spear. Jey went to the top rope one more time and delivered an Uso Splash to Gunther. Instead of pinning him Jey hit the Uso Splash two more times.
Gunther tried to get back up then Jey locked in the sleeper hold and made Gunther tap to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. After the match Jimmy Uso made his way down to the ring to celebrate with his brother then they left through the crowd.
