Jerry Lawler and his fiancee Lauryn McBride were both arrested this morning on charges of domestic violence and as a result WWE has suspended Lawler indefinitely. WMC Action News 5 was able to speak to Lawler on the phone from jail and he commented on the situation.
Jerry went through what happened and said that he was wrestling in Memphis, ironically at an event called “A Night At The Slammer” and all the matches were cage matches. Lawler says he got home around 9:30 pm and Lauryn got home about half an hour later and she showed up intoxicated.
“When she drinks we get into a little bit of a shouting match and then she wants to leave,” Lawler said on the phone. “I was not going to let her leave in the car, because she was not in any condition to drive. She got more and more upset.”
Lawler says from there she called 911 and scratched his face in the process. He says that when the police arrived they told the couple that they had to treat the incident as a domestic violence case and that they were taking them both downtown.
Jerry Lawler added that nobody was hit and nobody was hurt and it was just a result of someone drinking too much. The reporter asked Lawler about the police affidavit that says Lauryn McBridge accused Jerry of shoving her into the stove and hitting her in the head. Jerry was asked if the claim was accurate and he says it was not.
Lawler was asked about the claim that he pulled out an unloaded gun and then told her to kill herself. He says she threw the gun at him and he never told her to kill herself.
Jerry was asked if he wanted to say anything to his fans and he just told the reporter that he and his fiancee are in an unfortunate situation and he’s saddened by it and he hopes they can get beyond it.
