During The Attitude Era, WWE aired a “This Is Your Life” segment for The Rock on Raw, and the segment drew huge ratings. It’s one of the most memorable Raw segments of all time, and WWE tried to recreate it this week on Raw.
WWE previously tried to recreate the angle with John Cena and it didn’t work. But you know what they say, if at first you don’t succeed try, try again.
Well, WWE tried again and they had Alexa Bliss host a “This Is Your Life” segment this week on Raw with Bayley as the focus, and fans seem to unanimously agree that the segment was less than great. Alexa Bliss tried her best to sell the segment, but even her skills weren’t enough to save it.
WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler recently talked about the segment on his podcast Dinner With The King, and he noted that sometimes things just don’t work out on live television.
“Sometimes things happen that just don’t turn out like you envision it. I’m sure that’s exactly what happened there. Here’s the other thing: it’s live T.V. That’s a double-edged sword, believe me. When something doesn’t turn out the way you planned it, there’s nothing you can do about it. It’s there. It was live and everybody saw it. That was just one of those cases. You just gotta move on.”
At one point Booker T said that “this is hard to watch” and it was hard to disagree with him, and Jerry Lawler thinks it was the right thing to say.
“You know what, that could have well have been a Vince [McMahon] line. I’m not sure, because I wasn’t there. But either way, that was the right thing to say. It was probably conveying the thoughts of everybody watching it.”
