Jerry Lawler returned to commentary on Monday Night Raw in Memphis, TN this week. Normally it would have been great to see Lawler and while it was still amazing to have him back it was under less than desirable circumstances.
Booker T couldn’t make the show because he was trapped and dealing with the horrible Hurricane Harvey ransacking the Texas and Louisiana area. There were a lot of people left homeless and thousands if not millions of lives were overturned and ruined due to the devastating storm. Our hearts and thoughts go out to those who are still dealing with the awful situation due to the Hurricane.
When Jerry Lawler got the call saying he was going to be announcing the show it came out of the blue. Lawler revealed on a recent episode of Dinner With The King that he was planning on doing something for the show, but he had no idea he would be filling in on commentary until the last minute.
“Originally, they were going to do something with Pelvis Wesley and wanted me to be there to introduce him. So I knew I was going to be on the show,” Jerry Lawler said.
“It wasn’t basically until 3:00 PM in the afternoon, I got a text message from Michel Cole saying, ‘get your ass down to the FedEx Forum; you’re going to be doing commentary tonight.'”
Even though Jerry Lawler had an amazing time at the announce table, he said he wished he could have done more work with The Savior Of Misbehavior, Corey Graves. “But it was great to be back. I wish I would have been able to do more with Corey Graves, as far as going back and forth with.”
Jerry then revealed what the Chairman Of The Board said to him after the night was over: “Vince McMahon said, after the show, that I hadn’t missed a beat and gave me a hug.”
It was great having Jerry Lawler back and it only makes us miss his voice more. Hopefully, it won’t take a natural disaster to get him back on the commentary desk the next time around.
