Jerry Lawler is a WWE Hall of Famer, and for many years he worked full-time as a commentator in WWE. Fans grew used to hearing Lawler’s voice on Raw, SmackDown and WWE pay-per-views, but times have changed and now new announcers are being promoted to the commentary table.
A spot recently opened up on the SmackDown Live announce team when JBL stepped down from his position, and WWE later announced that Corey Graves would be replacing JBL. On a recent episode of his podcast Dinner With The King, Jerry Lawler noted that he wasn’t asked to replace JBL, but he would consider returning to WWE on a full-time basis.
“Umm, no. But if they did, I missed the call. I was more than happy to come back to fill in for Booker T on Raw when the hurricane kept him from being able to be at the show. But if they were to call me and ask me to come back on a full-time basis, it would be a really, really tough decision to make. If they said I was going to make the same money as I did before, that would go a long way in making me consider going back again.”
It was recently announced that Raw will air live on Christmas and New Year’s Day for the first time ever, and even though Jerry Lawler said he would consider returning to WWE full-time, he made it clear that he has no interest in working on Christmas.
“I would never wrestle on Christmas. That’s almost sacrilegious to me. I wouldn’t do it.”
