TNA’s behind the scenes drama was a wild rollercoaster ride in 2016, but so far it looks like TNA is getting off on the right foot in 2017. It was announced earlier today that Anthem Sports & Entertainment has acquired majority interest in TNA and now it looks like a familiar face will be returning to the company.
PWInsider is reporting that Anthem Media and Jeff Jarrett have come to terms on a deal, and Jarrett will be returning to TNA. It’s also being reported that Jeff and Karen Jarrett will be at this week’s TNA tapings.
Jeff Jarrett was one of the original founders of TNA but he parted ways with the company in 2013. He went on to form Global Force Wrestling but remained a minority owner in TNA. Jarrett later returned in 2014 as he was inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame, and he worked out a deal for Dixie Carter to acquire his shares of the company.
A source noted to PWInsider that Jarrett’s return is another sign that Dixie Carter is completely out of power, as she never would have let him return to the company.
Anthem contacted Jeff Jarrett last month and the two sides reportedly had a few meetings. Jeff Jarrett’s role with TNA is unknown at this point, but it’s possible he could be involved in creative behind the scenes. Dutch Mantel is also in Orlando and he’s expected to be at this week’s tapings.
Jarrett’s return to TNA does not mean the end of Global Force Wrestling and it’s believed that whatever Jeff is doing with TNA, it won’t have an impact on GFW.
UPDATE: ProWrestlingSheet.com reports that Jarrett will be working for TNA as an Executive Consultant.
Jeff Jarrett issued the following statement to PWS:
“This is a great opportunity for myself and GFW. And, I feel it’s great for the wrestling business.”
