Carmella made history back in June when she became the first-ever Miss Money In The Bank, thanks largely to interference from her companion James Ellsworth.
Over the past 11 months, Carmella and Ellsworth have been slowly taking over the Women’s Division as the mismatched couple storyline finally reached the point where The Princess of Staten Island now brings Ellsworth to the ring wearing a collar and lead.
The pairing has become strange, quite quickly, but they are still seen as one of the most entertaining things on SmackDown Live. James recently appeared on Jerry Lawler’s podcast, Dinner with the King and talked about who’s idea it was to pair him up with the former NXT star, and shockingly it wasn’t WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.
He said: “I think it was last year at the European tour in November, she came to me and said, ‘Hey, I have this idea about putting you with me whenever you’re done with the Dean Ambrose and AJ stuff comes to an end, I have this idea to pitch to them. They put you with me, you fall in love with me, and I use that to my advantage to win matches and get me to the women’s title.’”
“I said yeah, that would be a great idea. I didn’t know her much back then. She went to Vince, and she pitched right to Vince, and Vince loved it. It’s ten, going on eleven months that we’ve been on TV together. We are good friends. We text all the time. She’s a very, very smart girl, and she’s easy to talk to. We get along great.”
There is no doubting the fact that Ellsworth has helped Carmella rise through the ranks in the SmackDown Women’s Division over the past year, so it seems that Miss Money In The Bank really does have a mind for wrestling if she managed to pitch an idea that has been so successful for both her and James.
