Last year at Money in the Bank, the first ever women’s Money in the Bank ladder match took place, and it came to an end when James Ellsworth grabbed the briefcase and handed it to Carmella.
Carmella later had to win the briefcase again during another ladder match on SmackDown Live, but luckily for Carmella, the victory worked out in her favor and she cashed in a few weeks ago to defeat Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
On Sunday night, Carmella defended the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Money in the Bank, and she enlisted the help of an old friend in order to make sure that she would walk away with a victory.
All week long it was rumored that James Ellsworth would be returning to WWE, and Ellsworth threw fuel on the fire when backed out of his scheduled appearance in Harbin, China.
During the match Asuka got the upper hand, but then a person wearing an Asuka robe, mask and wig made their ring to and stood on the apron.
Asuka looked confused as Carmella tried to roll her up but she kicked out.
The person removed the mask and revealed himself to be James Ellsworth.
As Asuka was distracted, Carmella kicked her in the face and then won the match.
