Jinder Mahal is the current WWE Champion, and he went from midcard star to main event talent overnight. After years of working at the bottom end of the card, Jinder Mahal has now found some success and everyone’s talking about his big win.
Although Jack Swagger is no longer a WWE superstar, he knows a thing or two about going from the midcard to the main event. Swagger recently spoke to the Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast about Jinder’s ascent, and he says he was just as surprised as the fans were when the Maharaja won the title.
“Jinder is an amazing performer. He is a very tall guy, great look and he is a business person. So I could definitely see him achieving this for sure and he has all tools. I was just as surprised as anyone though which is one of the good things about pro wrestling that you literally never know what is going to happen. I can definitely understand and I think I know why they did it. Jinder is amazing but India is also a very big market so it is like two birds with one stone.”
It wasn’t all that long ago that Jinder was working at the bottom of the card, and many fans were surprised to see him jump right to the top of SmackDown Live. However, Jack Swagger says he’s not surprised and it’s just proof that wrestlers need to stay ready, because anything can happen.
“No, I’m not. Maybe I’m jaded but I really don’t get surprised by much these days when it comes to WWE or professional wrestling because that is the beauty of it. Overnight you can become someone so the trick is to stay consistent, stay performing well and stay ready because it could happen at any second.”
Shortly before Jack Swagger won the Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania 26, he seemed like an unlikely choice to carry the briefcase as WWE hadn’t been doing much with him. But nevertheless he won the briefcase and then cashed in on Chris Jericho to become the World Heavyweight Champion proving that anything can happen in WWE.
