WWE and NJPW seem to be on good terms. NJPW did allow Jushin “Thunder” Liger to compete at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn after all. Now it looks like WWE has reached out to NJPW and started a conversation about possibly airing NJPW footage on the WWE Network. However, NJPW doesn’t seem so keen on the idea.
Bushiroad President Takaaki Kidani issued a statement at this link and he seems to have reservations about moving forward with the proposal. You can read a translation below courtesy of E. Key Oide.
There are other parts of the statement that indicate that NJPW wants to compete with WWE. Another portion reads as follows:
“How confront the strongest rival such as “MTG” or WWE? Presentation of the view of the world and the future, such as the fight table also, is one of such strategy.
We should create an environment in which entertainment themselves offer is accepted. If not care just movement of large rival looming, it will lose by turning to iron.”
NJPW of course already has their own streaming service called New Japan World and they also have a TV deal in the United States with AXS TV.
