The Royal Rumble is always one of the most anticipated events of the year, and on Sunday night the 30 man Royal Rumble match headlined the pay-per-view.
The match saw some names from the past return, and Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the match was the oldest men’s Royal Rumble match in WWE history.
It was noted that Dominik Mysterio and Otis were the only two competitors in the match under the age of 30 years old.
Meltzer also pointed out that last year’s Royal Rumble was the second oldest in company history.
It’s no big secret that WWE has had issues when it comes to creating new stars in recent years, and these stats only seem to highlight the fact that the company has become dependent on names from the past.
Ultimately Edge won the 30 man Royal Rumble match, and he will now go on to WrestleMania to challenge for a major championship.
