For months now fans have been wondering who would be challenging Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 40, and this week on Raw a gauntlet match was held to determine the number one contender for the IC Title.
Ricochet, JD McDonagh, Bronson Reed, Sami Zayn, Shinsuke Nakamura and Chad Gable all entered the gauntlet match on Monday night. It came down to Sami Zayn and Chad Gable, and in the end it was Sami Zayn who picked up the win.
Both men fought hard to earn the title shot, but the end of the match came when Chad Gable had Sami Zayn in the ankle lock which led to Sami reversing it into a roll up for the win.
After the match Chad Gable looked shocked, but he picked Sami Zayn up off the mat then Sami hugged him. Sami’s celebrationg was quickly interrupted by Gunther who made his way out into the arena to stare Sami down as the show went off the air.
Sami Zayn will now go on to challenge Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 40 next month. Stay tuned for more updates on the WrestleMania card as they become available.
