World of Sport was a phenomenon in the UK when it came to British wrestling, it was one of the biggest shows on TV back in the 1980s and now it seems that after ITV brought back the show for a one-off broadcast on New Year’s Eve, they are now set to reboot the popular show for a 10-part series.
The show is set to be brought back in June on Saturday afternoons in the UK and Impact Wrestling’s Chief Executive Jeff Jarrett is set to be an executive producer for the show.
Impact have also signed a new deal with Freeview channel Spike to broadcast episodes and pay-per-views in the UK from April 21st. It is unknown if Impact Wrestling stars will be joining the World of Sport roster now that Jarrett has taken charge.
Jarrett said: “The WOS brand is etched in professional wrestling tradition. My family’s lineage in the industry dates back 70-plus years, so I am honoured for the opportunity to work on reviving the legacy of this historic British series.”
World of Sport was a hit when it was brought back for a one-off episode a few months ago, it featured some of the best talent in Britain right now, and with WWE set to host another British-based event in a few weeks time, it seems as though there has never been a better time to be a British wrestling fan.
