At Summerslam, Kevin Owens will receive another rematch for the United States Title against AJ Styles. However, Shane McMahon will serve as the special guest referee for their match, which is a different role for the SmackDown Live Commissioner than the fans were expecting Shane to be in at the PPV.

There were some rumors about Shane O’Mac entering into a feud with Kevin Owens on the biggest party of the summer. However, WWE officials thought it would be better for Shane to be the referee because they have bigger plans for the McMahon/Owens rivalry coming soon.
It’s being reported by Rajah that WWE officials are hoping to keep their rivalry going into the Survivor Series PPV in November. The powers that be want to build towards a Team Owens vs. Team Shane match at the event with both men serving as team captains for the match.
It’s unclear if WWE officials are planning to do a singles match between Shane and Owens at some point after Survivor Series, but the fans can expect some kind of angle at Summerslam to build the tension between them as the feud between Owens and Styles comes to an end.
