Last week on Friday Night SmackDown a fatal five way match took place to determine who would challenge Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania and it ended in controversy. Sheamus and Drew McIntyre both scored a pinfall which was counted by two separate referees, so a singles match was set up for SmackDown this week.
Drew McIntyre and Sheamus went to war on Friday night, but the match ended in a disqualification when Giovanni Vinci and Ludwig Kaiser of Imperium interfered. After the DQ finish Adam Pearce appeared on the screen and announced that Gunther will now be facing both Sheamus and Drew McIntyre at Mania in a triple threat match.
