SmackDown Live is in a horrible position following the Superstar Shakeup last week, both their main champions already have challengers ahead of next Sunday’s Payback event so all the creative team can do is set up matches to determine challengers in two weeks time.
The Blue Brand is dealing with this quite well and last week’s triple threat United States Championship number one contender’s match stole the show, so it comes as no surprise that there will be another title shot on the line on tonight’s show.
It will be a six pack challenge between Sami Zayn, Luke Harper, Erick Rowan, Dolph Ziggler, Mojo Rawley and Jinder Mahal with the winner being awarded a WWE Championship match against either Randy Orton or Bray Wyatt following their “House of Horrors” match at Payback next weekend.
It is interesting to see that Baron Corbin hasn’t been put in the match but Sami Zayn has, even though he was the man who was pinned in the triple threat match last week. The format of this also means that recent allies Erick Rowan and Randy Orton could be forced to collide in two weeks time, whilst sworn enemies Luke Harper and Orton could also meet again one on one.
It is unclear who is coming out of Payback with the WWE Championship. but it seems as though SmackDown is covering all bases and ensuring that they begin the build-up to Backlash as early as possible.
