Shinsuke Nakamura was called up to the WWE main roster last year, and he went on to earn the right to challenge for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania when he won the Royal Rumble match back in January.
AJ Styles managed to retain his WWE Title on the Road to WrestleMania, and Styles vs. Nakamura was made official after he survived the six pack challenge at Fastlane.
Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ proved two years ago at Wrestle Kingdom 10 that they have great chemistry together, and everyone was talking about their WrestleMania dream match heading into Sunday’s show.
AJ and Shinsuke have been taunting each other on SmackDown Live for weeks now, and luckily they did not disappoint when they finally faced off.
Throughout the match AJ targeted Shinsuke’s left leg, and he locked in the calf crusher for a while but Shinsuke did not tap. Styles emphasized that his lower back was in pain as the match went on.
The end of the match came when Shinsuke hit the reverse exploder, then went for the Kinshasa, but Styles rolled him up and then turned it into the Styles Clash for the win.
After the match was over, AJ Styles picked up Shinsuke and they hugged as a show of respect.
Shinsuke grabbed the WWE Championship belt, and got down on his knees to present it to AJ. Styles was giving Nakamura a pep talk, but when AJ least expected it, Nakamura hit him with a low blow.
Nakamura then beat AJ down and hit him with the Kinshasa outside of the ring before walking up the ramp.
