Shane McMahon and SmackDown General Manager announced a few weeks ago that a tag team tournament would be held, and that new Tag Team Champions would be crowned in the finals at Backlash.
Heath Slater was snubbed in the draft back in July, and ever since then he’s been a free agent. He’s been trying to get a contract on either Raw or SmackDown, and he managed to land himself a spot in the tag team tournament.
Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan told him that if he could find a partner, he could enter the tournament, and if he won the tournament he would win gold and a SmackDown contract. Luckily for Heath Slater, Rhyno agreed to be his partner.
Rhyno and Heath Slater faced The Usos in the finals of the tag team tournament at Backlash, and Slater and Rhyno walked out with the gold.
Heath Slater was the legal man, but the legal Uso hit Slater with a superkick, then Rhyno hit the legal Uso with the Gore when the ref wasn’t looking. Slater followed up with the pin for the win.
