At any given time the WWE roster is loaded with talent, but there’s only so much TV time to go around. The Bella Twins know what it’s like to reach the top of WWE as they’re now Hall of Famers. However, there was once a point during their WWE run when they were fighting to get TV time.
Former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. recently talked about The Bella Twins on his Wrestling With Freddie podcast, and he revealed that they were ready to leave the company due to their lack of TV time.
“He [WWE producer Michael Hayes] was the one that ran into the room when we were about to lose them. Because Brie Bella called John Laurinaitis and was like, ‘Look, our contracts are up. Put us on TV or we’re gone.’ John Laurinaitis calls Freebird [Hayes] and is like, ‘You gotta find a way to get the twins on television right now.’ Freebird runs in the writers’ room, he’s like, ‘We got twins! We gotta get them on TV!’”
The Bella Twins went on to become key figures in WWE’s women’s division for a number of years. They also went on to star in Total Divas and their own Total Bellas reality series which Freddie credited with changing the business.
“I think The Bellas kinda blew up the women’s division, at least in WWE. Not to say there wasn’t women killing it all over the world in other promotions… When The Bellas came in there with that reality show, it genuinely changed the business.”
