WWE brought Goldberg back into the fold in 2016 and from there he went on quite the run. Goldberg won the Universal Championship twice and he was also inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2018.
It’s been a while since Goldberg stepped into the ring as he last competed when he challenged Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at Elimination Chamber last year, and it was The Tribal Chief who picked up the victory. The Hall of Famer has declared that he wants a retirement match, but it doesn’t seem to be in WWE’s plans right now as his contract with the company expired months ago.
Recently Goldberg spoke to Adam Carriker on 93.7 The Ticket, and he explained that he had a handshake agreement with Vince McMahon in regard to a proper retirement match. However, WWE has not held up their end of the bargain.
“Vince McMahon and I had a handshake understanding that, you know, after the Roman Reigns match I would have a proper retirement match. And, you know, that hasn’t come to fruition through them. So, therefore… You know, nobody puts a stamp on my career. Nobody tells me when I’m done, period. When somebody tells me that, you know, I kinda like to fight against it. I like to do things my own way and I go out my own way. And I certainly don’t go out, you know, under Roman Reigns, you know, three weeks after I’ve had Covid and agreed to a match.”
It’s not clear at this point in time where Goldberg could wrestle his retirement match, but he previously mentioned possibly doing something in Israel, and Tony Khan of AEW has made it clear that he’s paying attention to Goldberg’s free agent status.
Stay tuned for more updates on a potential retirement match for Goldberg as they become available.
