Has Goldberg Made A Huge Mistake By Returning To WWE?

Goldberg made his return to WWE a few weeks ago after months of rumors that the former WCW superstar would be stepping back into a WWE ring for the first time in 12 years.

Brock Lesnar has been confirmed as his opponent for what is set to be an epic encounter at Survivor Series in just under three weeks time, but when Goldberg appeared on Raw last night, he proved that he may have much more ring rust than the WWE Universe was aware of.

Goldberg was interrupted during his promo last night on Monday night Raw by Rusev who then proceeded to punch him in the face. Goldberg responded by delivering The JackHammer, but before he pulled off the move, he made a blatant botch by falling on the floor in the middle of the variation.

Goldberg himself would have known how hard it would be stepping into the ring for the first time in more than a decade, but even he probably didn’t predict that the ring rust would be so bad that he couldn’t pull off a signature move without problems.

The man himself revealed in a recent interview with Booker T that he hadn’t set foot in a ring yet to train ahead of his match in just 20 days.

“I haven’t been in the ring yet. That’s the one thing after those 12 years that is probably the most important to reacquaint yourself with, but I’m going in for one match. I’m not going to get into the ring for 20 days straight to reacclimate myself to hitting the ropes because, hopefully, the only thing that will be hitting is my fist hitting Brock’s face and him hitting the mat, so the reality is I’m going to be taken to Suplex City.

“I’m going to take some suplexes in this thing. Yeah, but it is what it is. It ain’t like I didn’t play in the NFL, dude. I may be old, but I know what I’m getting myself into.”

Does he know what he is getting himself into? This is the problem, wrestling has changed over the past decade, Brock Lesnar has been and trained with UFC since these two last met. Lesnar is a former Heavyweight Champion in UFC and Goldberg has no idea what kind of force he is stepping in the ring with.

The fact that he hasn’t even bothered to step back into a training ring to run the ropes and shake off some of the ring rust is probably why he ended up making such a glaring both on Monday Night Raw.

He even tweeted following the event to say that it was ring rust that caused it, but he doesn’t seem to be doing anything in order to combat this.

Goldberg stated that he was making the return so that his wife and son could see him wrestle, which they will, but it is highly unlikely if not damn near impossible for them to see him defeat Brock Lesnar.

Especially since Goldberg went after his advocate on Raw, making this match much more personal than it already was. Even the spear that Goldberg hit on Paul Heyman didn’t seem to look as seemless as it used to, but that could be down to Heyman, who obviously isn’t a wrestler, so he wouldn’t sell the move like a wrestler.

With the match now getting closer and both men set to be in the same arena in just under two weeks time, it is now that Goldberg should really be questioning whether or not he made the right decision.

It is understandable that he is doing this for his son, but he isn’t a trained wrestler, look what Brock Lesnar has done to wrestlers who were physically trained and prepared for his kind of offence, Goldberg needs to think about what he has to lose, more than what he has to gain.

This match will definitely be a brutal one and as already stated, the fact that Goldberg hasn’t started to train because he doesn’t feel he needs to, shows how little he knows about the opponent he has decided to call out.

Goldberg will be going to Suplex City whether he likes it or not and he won’t be able to blame his problems on ring rust when he’s in the ring with The Beast Incarnate.
