As seen on last Monday’s episode of RAW, Stephanie McMahon stripped Daniel Bryan of his WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Now on the surface it looks like this was the worst thing that could happen to the bearded ring warrior. I think if you look deeper you will see that this was the best thing that could’ve happen to Bryan.
Here are 3 reasons why:
With the titles up for grabs at Money In The Bank there is no reason for Bryan to rush back. He will now be allotted as much time as he needs to fully heal up from his neck surgery. Knowing Bryan’s work ethic, you can only assume that he was pushing himself as hard as his body would let him so he could defend his title at MITB. While you have to respect his drive, you also have to understand that pushing yourself this soon after a surgery can only put strain on his surgically repaired neck. Now that he doesn’t have to push his body to the limits, he should use this time for some much needed rest and relaxation. Wait until he feels absolutley 100% and then and only then should he make his comeback. The neck isn’t something to mess around with, just ask the Rated R Superstar.
Now that Bryan will be off television for a few weeks it will only do wonders for his return. Daniel Bryan played a major role in WWE for the last year and oversaturation was only natural. One thing wrestling fans do not like is the feeling like we are being force fed a superstar (cough cough Cena). While I don’t think many of us feel Bryan was being forced down our throats, a little time away from the product will actually help his longevity. Daniel Bryan himself has said he wouldn’t be booked anywhere near the top of the card if it wasn’t for the fans, so with him recovering it will only build our excitement for his highly anticipated return. Out of all the superstars on the card, Bryan feeds the most off of our vocal support. His absence will allow the fans time to catch their breath and then unleash thunderous “YES!” chants upon his return.
The most exciting part about the Daniel Bryan character for many is the feeling that he’s the underdog. He kept climbing the ladder only to have The Authority keep knocking him back down. I don’t believe WWE will be able to recreate the overall epic feeling of Bryan finally getting over the hurdle at Wrestlemania. However, Bryan chasing the title made for amazing matches and heart stopping twists and turns. With the time off and the chase back on, you better believe the “YES MOVEMENT” will be in full swing. Daniel Bryan gives us something to believe in. He’s not the biggest, fastest and all the other cliches but that is exactly why we cheer for him. YES! YES! YES!
