Gail Kim has put on some incredible performances inside the ring, and she’s spent the majority of her wrestling career working for TNA, or GFW as it’s now known. However, Kim had two runs with WWE, but she grew frustrated during her time with the company.
Women’s wrestling was in a very different place during Gail Kim’s time in WWE, and the women weren’t allowed to showcase their skills in the same way that they are today. Gail recently spoke to Sean Waltman on his X-Pac 12360 show, and she admitted that she felt like she was held down in WWE because the timing wasn’t right.
“I felt held down in WWE. It was just the wrong timing in that company. When I first came into the company the woman’s division was strong with Trish and Jazz with all those girls. When the first diva’s search happen it kinda went away, that’s when I got fired actually, and mind you, it brought me my best friend Christy Hemme. It always felt like it was just never a right fit for me.”
After leaving WWE, Kim got the chance to show the world was she was capable of, and people took notice of her matches with Awesome Kong in TNA. When asked about the differences between working in WWE and TNA, Gail Kim noted that she had more independence in TNA.
“In WWE (matches) it’s a little bit more controlled in ways. For example, you know we always had Fit (Finlay) as our agent… well, most of the time. And so he would tell us to do certain things. Not the whole match. You know because we kind of work together but if there is something he really wanted us to do then we would do it. Whereas in Impact it was kind of different where we have more independence.”
