Fans waited 7 long years for CM Punk to return to professional wrestling, and he finally did when he appeared on the second episode of AEW Rampage a few weeks ago. Prior to signing with AEW the former champion worked as an analyst on WWE Backstage on FOX, and it’s been said that Punk still has a good relationship with the network.
CM Punk has confirmed that WWE reached out to him through intermediaries, but the talks didn’t go anywhere, and people in WWE continually said that the company had no interest in him.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that FOX wanted WWE to make CM Punk an offer when it became clear that there was a good chance he could be signing with All Elite Wrestling.
WWE responded by telling FOX that the money Punk wanted was too high, and the network reportedly offered to help out because they were so interested in him returning to WWE instead of signing with AEW. However, WWE officials noted that there were other reasons why they didn’t want to sign Punk including issues with his attitude.
