The 2023 WWE Draft has come and gone, but there have been many memorable draft moments in the past. In the 2011 draft John Cena was selected as the first draft picked and he was moved to SmackDown. However, Cena was moved back to Raw later in the night as the final pick of the draft.
John Cena moving to SmackDown apparently didn’t go over well with USA Network as Freddie Prinze Jr. recently revealed on his Wrestling With Freddie podcast that the network freaked out. Freddie also noted that the situation with Cena getting drafted twice was already in the script as Vince McMahon wanted to mess with USA Network.
“Vince would mess with them. On the draft one year he drafted John Cena, which was the only ratings that Monday Night Raw would get, he drafted him to Friday Night SmackDown, and USA freaked out and started calling.”
Freddie went on to say that he thinks moves like that hurt the credibility of the draft when he added, “It delegitimizes the entire draft process that they do every year. Like that could actually happen ‘No, we want him, no we want him,’ just every draft pick, and he did it just to screw with the people.”
