Former WWE Writer Reveals Ric Flair Promo That Got Vince McMahon Heated

You never know what’s going to happen when you give Ric Flair a live mic as The Nature Boy has cut his fair share of memorable promos throughout the course of his career. Flair certainly knows how to get people to react when he cuts promos, but it sounds like there was at least one promo that change Vince McMahon’s approach to how he does business.

Former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz recently did an interview with AdFreeShows.com, and he noted that Vince McMahon once got heated when Ric Flair went off script at Madison Square Garden which led to the approval process for promos being changed in WWE.

“There might have been an incident in Madison Square Garden once when Ric Flair went off script that got Vince a little heated about what he had said and said, ‘Dammit, from then on, I need to know what every single talent is going to be saying going out there.’ That was in Madison Square Garden with lots of corporate sponsors and when he said [that he has made virgins bleed] there was, there was a noticeable shift in the amount of approval process growing from that point.”

Ric Flair recently came out of retirement when he teamed with Andrade El Idolo to defeat Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal last month, but The Nature Boy recently stated on his podcast that he already regrets saying that was going to be his last match.

“I wish I hadn’t said it was my last match. That’s gonna get heat. Hell, they wanted me to wrestle in Puerto Rico on Saturday night. I said, ‘Guys, I cannot get in the ring one week later.’ And the guy looked at me and said, ‘Well, you know what, could retire in Puerto Rico can’t you?’ No, no, no that’s not the point.”
