Steve Austin is without a doubt one of the biggest names in the history of the business and recently people in the wrestling world have been talking a lot about the possibility of Austin returning to the ring once again at WrestleMania 39 in April.
Stone Cold has made some memorable appearances on WWE programming over the years, and the company had to make some adjustments for the 3:16 day episode of Raw in March of 2020. WWE TV was moved to the Performance Center due to the COVID-19 pandemic which led to Austin appearing on Raw with no fans in attendance.
Former WWE writer Chris Dunn recently appeared on the Public Enemies Podcast and he explained that he came up with a segment involving Steve Austin and a janitor for the 3:16 day episode of Raw, but ultimately it got cut.
“Oh yeah, I thought I was getting fired that day. Rudy Gobert gets COVID, and then I find out I’m flying to Florida. I don’t know how that tracks. But yeah, working with Austin was the best. It was a wild time because nobody knew what was happening. Yeah, that was also a promo I wrote where you write the good version of that promo.
“I had something where we had to incorporate a janitor in it. I don’t know if it made the show; I forget. But I had the janitor have like a heart attack in like an over-the-top way, which I think Austin liked actually. It was like Austin 3:16 says don’t die. And just to show you how production meetings go, somebody who’s not on the writing team raised their hand and said to Vince, ‘Vince, with everything going on with COVID right now. I think it’s inappropriate to say Austin 3:16, don’t die.’ And you’re right; it was taken out of the script.”
