The WWE Universe has been treated to several amazing characters in the history of the company but few have been game for anything more than The World’s Strongest Man Mark Henry. Since coming into the company with much fanfare in 1996, Henry has wowed audiences around the world with his incredible strength and athletic ability in the ring.
But all good things must come to an end and as reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Mark Henry is officially retired. Henry hasn’t inducted anyone into the Hall Of Pain in a while and his last run with the company as a full-time competitor seems like forever ago. On that note, he hasn’t wrestled a match since the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 33 and only wrestled three times last year in total.
One appearance was to simply put Braun Strowman over as a dominant heel when Henry was squashed with little trouble by The Monster Among Men. Henry also appeared in the 2017 Royal Rumble as the sixth entrant but he was only put out of the match by Braun Strowman to yet again put over the younger monster.
Henry announced his intentions of becoming a WWE producer on a recent episode of Table For 3 which would be a fine spot and would allow him to share some of the knowledge he has for the business.
Henry is also booked for his first gig outside of WWE at an indie wrestling event in Connecticut on March 2nd where he will be signing autographs. This kind of date would never happen for a current WWE Superstar because they simply wouldn’t allow it. Although other former WWE Superstars such as Rey Mysterio and Tenille Dashwood (formerly known as Emma) will be working the show, it’s doubtful Mark Henry will be inducting anyone into the Hall Of Pain that night.
By all accounts, Mark Henry’s career might be done but his influence on the pro wrestling business is just beginning. Thanks for all the memories from The Nation Of Domination to Sexual Chocolate including being a proud poppa as Mae Young gave birth to the couple’s child, a rubber hand.
