Former WWE Superstar Reveals How He Lost His Big Push

In the world of professional wrestling timing is everything, and unfortunately there are instances where factors come into play that can drastically alter the course of a wrestler’s career.

During the Ruthless Aggression Era La Résistance won the WWE World Tag Team Titles, and the victory made Rene Dupree the youngest champion in WWE history at the time when he won the belts at only 19 years old.

It seemed that the sky was the limit for Dupree, but during a recent appearance on Sportskeeda Wrestling’s UnSKripted podcast he noted that his push fizzled out when Vince McMahon noticed he had a hernia which put him on the shelf for eight months.

“It was in Memphis, TN. I had a match against Tajiri. At that point I had gotten really big, I was getting really jacked because I wanted to get that big push. I had an abdominal hernia that was popping out. Backstage, Vince (McMahon) was looking at me. And the doctor at that time was a team doctor. Vince talked to the doctor and the doctor came and said, ‘We’ve got to get that hernia fixed.’ So they sent me to a doctor in Louisville, KY to get the hernia fixed. I thought, two or three weeks and I’ll be back on the road. I was out for eight months.”

Since parting ways with WWE Rene Dupree has gone on to work on to work with various promotions such as All Japan Pro Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Noah and more. Recently he has been promoting his podcast Cafe de Rene. Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
