Last weekend fans saw Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar face off in their third WrestleMania match with both the WWE Championship and Universal Championship on the line. In the end it was Roman who picked up the win and walked out with the gold, but Roman had previously taken two losses to Lesnar on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
In 2015 Roman Reigns won the Royal Rumble and he went on to challenge Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 31. It seemed that Reigns was being positioned to win the match, but in the end it was actually Seth Rollins who walked out with the gold when he cashed in his Money In The Bank contract.
Former WWE star Joey Mercury was working with WWE as a producer at the time, and during a recent appearance on Wrestling Shoot Interviews he revealed that he was the person who had to tell Roman Reigns that he wouldn’t be winning the main event.
“When I had to tell him in the hallway of the hotel that he was not gonna defeat Brock Lesnar after everything we did for the last year, after Brock broke The Streak, after Brock killed John Cena at SummerSlam, after Suplex City, all that, we’re not gonna put Roman over… To see that, just to see him smile, say, ‘Okay, it’s gonna be great.’”
