CM Punk has been one of the most popular wrestlers in the industry for a long time, and he was part of some big feud during his time in WWE. During his time with the company CM Punk became one of Ryback’s greatest rivals, and their feud has since become infamous due to the comments that Punk made about Ryback in 2014 on Colt Cabana’s Art of Wrestling podcast.
The former WWE Champion made it clear that he’s not fond of Ryback, but it seems that their relationship wasn’t always so strained. Ryback talked about his history with Punk on the K100 podcast and he claimed that they got along great before Punk found out about his merchandise numbers.
“We got along great, I thought, prior to that. I can tell you, him and [John] Cena were the two [highest] merch sellers when I came up and I got hot, and I’ll never forget he came over to me when the merch guys were showing me the numbers, and Punk became aware of it and he goes, ‘Holy s**t.’ From that point forward, I felt like everything kinda changed with everything.”
Ryback went on to say that the competitive environment in WWE sometimes brings out the worst in people when he added, “When you’re in that environment, it brings out the worst in everybody. You know how money is with everything. I understand it. You’re in the top positions, you wanna protect your money. Nobody is gonna go out of their way to make it easier for me, right? So, it’s just the way that it is in that environment.”
CM Punk has been out of action since September of 2022, but it’s been confirmed that he will be returning to All Elite Wrestling later this month for the debut episode of Collision on June 17. Stay tuned for updates.
