Former WWE Ref Reveals What Went Wrong During Botched Undertaker Elimination Chamber Spot

The Undertaker is officially retired from in-ring competition, but during his time as an active wrestler he competed in some of the most grueling matches in WWE history.

The former WWE Champion is no stranger to the Elimination Chamber match, and during the No Way Out pay-per-view in 2008 The Deadman actually fell out of the structure.

Big Daddy V pushed The Undertaker into the door of the Elimination Chamber, and the door opened causing Taker to fall to the outside. Former WWE referee Nick Patrick was inside the chamber at the time, and he told Sportskeeda that the door was not supposed to be unlocked.

“The whole cage deal, that was not at all supposed to happen. Any time something happens, especially with The Undertaker or somebody big, heads were gonna roll. They were gonna try to roll the wrong heads, in my opinion. There was nothing Jimmy Korderas or I could have done from inside that ring to the latch, so how’s that gonna be my responsibility?”

Patrick was one of two referees inside the Elimination Chamber, however John Laurinaitis blamed him for the door opening, even though it wasn’t his responsibility, and Patrick noted that the incident led to the end of his career with WWE.

“He [John Laurinaitis] goes, ‘You know, you’re the two experienced guys [Patrick and Jimmy Korderas] and I’m holding you two responsible for what just happened.’ I’m like, ‘Wait a second, dude…’ I can’t repeat what I said but it was not good.”It was enough to make Vince say, ‘Hey, don’t do this here. Let’s take this back to another room.’ I said, ‘Yes, sir, let’s take it to another room, and you come with him.’ So that was the beginning of the end for me.”

Ultimately The Undertaker went on to earn a WWE World Heavyweight Title opportunity at WrestleMania 24 when he won the match. He then went on to defeat Edge at WrestleMania and win the World Heavyweight Championship.
