When the Money in the Bank contract was first introduced it quickly became a game changer for the world of professional wrestling. Many Money in the Bank winners have been able to change their careers by cashing in at the right time and it seems that the Money in the Bank concept will continue to be a big element of WWE programming for years to come.
Former WWE referee Mike Chioda recently discussed Money in the Bank on Monday Mailbag, and he revealed an interesting idea that he pitched which would have introduced a finals match for two of the Money in the Bank competitors.
“It was always about Dolph Ziggler and somebody else … going for the briefcase, as they’re up there, the briefcase opens up. One falls down with the contract, [and] one falls down with the f***ing briefcase. So now, the case ain’t nothing without the contract, [and] the contract’s nothing without the briefcase, so now you gotta square off into a finals match. … I kept pitching that idea, but it never went through.”
This year the Money in the Bank premium live event took place from London, England and Iyo Sky won the women’s match while Damian Priest won the men’s match. So far both competitors have yet to cash in, but they have been teasing potential cash ins in recent weeks. Stay tuned for updates.
