Over the years fans have seen a number of different championships on WWE programming and the Hardcore Championship was featured on TV from 1998 through 2002. Many wrestlers held the title and in 2002 during an episode of SmackDown the belt changed hands when Maven defeated The Undertaker to win the Hardcore Championship.
Maven went on to hold the WWE Hardcore Championship three times and he recently explained on his YouTube channel that he lost possession of the belt one night when he left it in his vehicle while he was out at the bar.
“I almost got in trouble the first time, I took it [WWE Hardcore Title] out because at that time I was the only Hardcore Champion, I thought that was pretty cool. So I took it out to a bar that night, I was parked in a spot I probably shouldn’t have been because I thought I was great…and my car got towed. I had a flight the next morning to go out and defend the Hardcore Championship.
Not having that belt on the flight for that show was not an option. I had to wake up the lot owner and I had to pay him $500 to get my car [and the belt] out the lot, and phew I made my flight. My wallet was a letter thinner but I learnt a valuable lesson that night.”
