The annual Money in the Bank premium live event featured a few title matches this year and Gunther put his Intercontinental Championship on the line against Matt Riddle on Saturday.
Throughout the match Gunther targeted Matt Riddle’s ankle and that proved to be an effective strategy. Gunther made Matt Riddle tap out to an ankle lock to win the match and then he held up his Intercontinental Championship belt over his head to celebrate. However, Gunther’s celebrated was short lived as Drew McIntyre’s music hit and the former WWE Champion made his surprise return and came down to the ring to confront Gunther.
Drew stood face to face with Gunther and Gunther shoved the Scottish Warrior. McIntyre responded by hitting Gunther with the Glasgow Kiss then followed up with a Claymore.
After taking Gunther out Drew made it clear that he has his sights set on the Intercontinental Championship as he held the belt up above his head then posed in the corner to end the segment.
