When it comes to goals in professional wrestling there are many out there who hope to someday win the WWE Championship. Rob Van Dam achieved this goal when he cashed in his Money in the Bank contract at ECW One Night Stand in 2006 to win the belt for the first time in his career.
While some Money in the Bank winners have used the element of surprise to win the title, Rob Van Dam announced his cash in ahead of time. Near the end of the match Edge interfered when he speared John Cena through a table, and RVD followed up with a Five Star Frog Splash to secure the victory.
During a recent appearance on D-Von Dudley’s YouTube channel, Rob Van Dam reflected on the win, and he explained why he felt insulted by the finish for the match.
“I understand, now, the bigger picture of everything because that’s what you do when you’re older. But this night, I would have rather Edge didn’t come out. I would have rather just beat him by myself. I felt a little insulted. I just felt like this was another thing where they didn’t trust the ECW or thought that ECW needed some more. So, my ego was a little taken back by that.“
