Earlier this week it was revealed that former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio had been arrested. Milenio is now reporting that Alberto Del Rio was arrested on Monday, April 6, in the Lomas del Tec subdivision, in the capital of San Luis Potosí. The former WWE Champion was arrested for allegedly physically and verbally abusing his romantic partner.
According to the report the woman called 911 and suffered injuries to her arms and face. State Civil Guard officers arrived just as she was being attacked, and arrested Del Rio as there were signs of violence.
The Penal Code of the State of San Luis Potosí punishes anyone who commits domestic violence with a 1 to 7 year sentence in prison, and 20 to 700 days of the Unit of Measurement and Update (UMA), regardless of whether or not the incident may produce injuries.
The report also notes that Del Rio could be tried for Injuries Committed Against Women Because of Their Gender, which carries a sentence of 8 to 20 years in prison. Gender based reasons are considered when the injuries caused are infamous, degrading, or mutilation, or when there are threats, harassment, or violence toward the victim prior to the injuries.
Infoebae reports that the victim is Del Rio’s wife Mary Carmen Rodríguez Lucero, and that she remains under medical and legal protection. Alberto Del Rio was reportedly taken to was the State Attorney General’s Office to face the aforementioned charges.
A month earlier Del Rio’s wife indicated there were issues when she sent a WhatsApp message to journalist Flor Rubio which said, “I went through a situation with my husband; it was an impulse on my part, but I’ve changed my mind. I don’t want to bother anyone or make things bigger.”
