It’s been a year of big returns as names like John Cena, Goldberg, The Rock, Nikki Bella, AJ Lee and more have all returned to WWE programming. Currently a number of top WWE stars are sitting on the sidelines due to injury, but it looks like at least one big name will be returning sooner than later.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther is expected to return very soon. The Ring General was written off television with an injury angle that played out during the SummerSlam night 1 main event so that he could undergo surgery on his nose.
Gunther ended up dropping his WWE World Heavyweight Championship to CM Punk at SummerSlam on August 2nd, and he’s been off television ever since. Following SummerSlam, Michael Cole told the audience that Gunther had suffered a septal hematoma and an orbital blowout fracture.
At this point in time there’s currently no word on what WWE has planned for Gunther when he returns. Over the last few years he’s been featured as one of the top stars in the company, and was consistently in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship picture following his first title win at SummerSlam in 2024.
Stay tuned for updates.
