SummerSlam is coming up on August 21st and a big name is set to be in New York City for SummerSlam weekend.
According to PWInsider former World Heavyweight Champion Bill Goldberg will be in town, likely to do promotion work for WWE 2K17. Goldberg is featured as a playable character in the game and has also been featured as part of the promotional campaign.
The report mentions that Goldberg is set to be in NYC for the whole weekend, but he is not slated to appear at any WWE TV tapings this coming week. There’s no word on whether or not Goldberg will be making some sort of cameo appearance at SummerSlam.
Goldberg parted ways with WWE in 2004 after facing off against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XX. Since there there have been a lot of rumors about him possibly stepping into a WWE ring again, but none of them have come to fruition.
After it was announced that Goldberg would be a part of WWE 2K17 he spoke with WWE.com and when asked if he has one more match in him, he said the following:
“I’ve got 50 more in me. It just depends on the ability to keep it up to my standards. I love everybody to death and I greatly appreciate their opinions, but none of it matters except for mine, because I hold myself to such high standards.
The reality is, you’ve got movies, TV appearances, a kid, you’re 49 years old … things aren’t like they used to be. It’s a completely different day. I’m 20 to 30 pounds less than what I was because I just don’t need to be that dude with traps from his ears to his shoulders. Would I like to be that guy again? Absolutely. He’s still in there.”
