Former WCW Producer On If The Company Used Fake Goldberg Chants

Goldberg is one of the most popular professional wrestlers of all time, and over the years “Goldberg” chants have become iconic in the world of professional wrestling. Fans know the sound of the chants well, but some have wondered just how authentic the chants were during Bill’s run with WCW.

On a recent episode of Neil Pruitt’s Secrets of WCW Nitro, Pruitt talked about rumors that the chants were piped in, and even though he did admit that sometimes chants were piped, he indicated that fake chants weren’t used as much as some people thing.

“Sometimes some of it would be recorded, and we would mix that in to get the people excited. It didn’t happen all that much as far as the live shows went, but I know I would enhance some of the pay-per-view events.”

Pruitt did go on to say that he did use piped in chants when he was working for Deep South Wrestling as a way to try and enhance the show.

“When I did the show for Deep South Wrestling – that’s where people like Luke Gallows, Kofi Kingston, MVP, Jack Swagger, The Miz and lots of [other] guys at WWE [came from] – I would always super-enhance the audio, as far as when the show aired on TV. I had a ‘roar’ track that I used underneath [the crowd noise], that I think really enhanced the show.”
