Celebrities and athletes have always taken a keen interest in professional wrestling, and and it looks like the latest athlete to take an interest in the industry is former Manchester United midfielder, Darren Fletcher.
Fletcher, who currently plays for Barclay’s Premier League club West Bromwich Albion was spotted at the recently concluded WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament, which was held in Blackpool at the famous Empress Ballroom on Saturday. The beloved midfielder was there alongside former Rugby player Eorl Crabtree. West Brom had lost their match to Tottenham Hotspurs 4-0 just hours before the event.
The tournament of course, was won by the 19-year-old Tyler Bate, who became the first-ever United Kingdom Champion by defeating Jordan Devlin at Blackpool’s Empress Ballroom. Triple H, who presented Bate with the title was also present with Finn Balor, WWE legends – Fit Finlay and William Regal, who were in the ring at the time.
This is not the first time a football player has taken interest in pro-wrestling. This was not Darren Fletcher’s first time at a wrestling event either as Wayne Rooney, Manchester United Legend Ryan Giggs, and Darren Fletcher attended a WWE Raw show in Manchester in November 2015. Wayne Rooney appeared live on that episode where WWE superstar Wade Barrett was on the receiving end of a slap from the Manchester United ace.
