There’s no denying that the WWE roster is loaded with talent. It could be argued that the roster is the best it’s ever been from an athletic standpoint, and the company just gained another talented professional wrestling veteran.
PWInsider is reporting that former WWE Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin has signed a new deal with the company. As of right now there’s no word on what brand Shelton Benjamin will be joining, or when he will be making his return to television, but the report notes that a source claimed he will be returning “soon.”
Fans who have been following WWE closely know that Shelton Benjamin’s return has been a long time coming. Last summer after the brand extension was reinstated, the company started showing vignettes promoting Benjamin’s return to the SmackDown Live brand.
Unfortunately Shelton discovered that he was injured before he made his return, and he later underwent surgery that put him on the sidelines for several months. The former WWE Intercontinental Champion was cleared to return to the ring a few months ago, but as rumors were circulating regarding his possible return, he was very clear when he told fans that he was not under contract to WWE. Luckily for fans all around the world, it appears that his status has changed.
When Shelton Benjamin joined the WWE main roster he formed the World’s Greatest Tag Team with Charlie Haas. Together they won the WWE Tag Team Titles, and Benjamin went on to find success as a singles wrestler when he won the Intercontinental Championship three times, and the United States Championship once in his career.
Benjamin was released from his contract in 2010. He then went on to wrestle in various promotions such as ROH and NJPW.
Many fans felt that Shelton was underrated during his run with WWE, so it should be interesting to see how the company uses him when he returns.
