Former Champion Cried When Vince McMahon Split Up Their Tag Team

Over the years there have been many iconic tag teams who have appeared on WWE programming and during the Attitude Era the New Age Outlaws were on top of the division. The New Age Outlaws quickly became one of the most popular teams on the roster, but at one point a decision was made to have Road Dogg and Billy Gunn work as singles competitors.

As a singles wrestler Road Dogg was able to capture the Hardcore Championship and the Intercontinental Championship, but he recently admitted on his Oh You Didn’t Know? podcast that he was scared to do his singles run because he liked where he was at and what he was doing at the time.

The Hall of Famer went on to say that he asked Vince McMahon not to split up the New Age Outlaws, and even admitted that he cried when he realized what was happening.

“There might’ve been tears shed. And by might’ve been, I mean I cried. It scared the crap out of me. It scared me to death that I was gonna have to do this on my own.”

Road Dogg added that even though he was unsure about a singles run for himself, he knew it would be good for Billy Gunn when he added, “I knew it was gonna be good for Billy because I knew what they had planned for him, and I knew what he looked like.”

How did you feel about Road Dogg’s singles run in WWE? Sound off in the comments below.
