Monday Night Raw was full of surprises last night as Raw General Manager Kurt Angle kicked off the show by announcing that Brock Lesnar would defend his Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble against both Braun Strowman and Kane in a triple threat match.
This was later overshadowed by the fact that Commissioner Stephanie McMahon returned to Raw to reveal that the women will once again make history in the first ever all-female Royal Rumble match at next year’s event.
These two huge announcements perhaps dwarfed the fact that a few minutes before Stephanie made her way to the ring, Elias had declared that he was going to enter the 2018 Royal Rumble and win. The Drifter is the first man to announce his participation in the match that is still more than five weeks away, but he’s a man who could be one of the dark horses in the battle royale.
This will also be Elias’ first Royal Rumble match after appearing on the main roster earlier this year. The former NXT star will now open up the door to many other stars announcing their participation in the coming weeks. The Rumble begins the Road To WrestleMania and a win is the only way to guarantee a main event match and given the size of WWE’s roster this year, many people will be left disappointed when they find out that they haven’t been chosen to participate in the biggest match of the year.
