Sunday night at Battleground Dean Ambrose successfully defended the WWE Championship against Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in a triple threat match.
Now that the brand split is in full effect that means Raw was left without a World Title. So Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon announced that Raw would be getting a brand new title called the WWE Universal Championship.
Finn Balor defeated Cesaro, Rusev and Kevin Owens in a Fatal 4 Way match earlier in the night and he earned the right to challenge Roman Reigns who defeated Chris Jericho, Sami Zayn and Sheamus in a Fatal 4 Way. Balor and Reigns faced off in the main event of Raw for the right to challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam, and it was Finn Balor who earned the title shot.
