Finn Balor has been out of action since taking an awful looking powerbomb on a barricade from Seth Rollins at SummerSlam. As bad as the move looked at home, it was even worse on Finn’s shoulder. He sustained a labrum tear that would require surgery, and even though the surgery was successful he still required months of extensive rehab. The earliest prognosis was that Finn would be out anywhere between 4-6 months, and we are currently right inside that time frame.
After Finn won the match, many thought that Balor didn’t lift his Universal Title following his victory because the crowd hated the new red belt, but in fact he didn’t lift it because he was competing in excruciating pain. Finn says that doctors don’t know how he even finished the rest of the match against Rollins in the first place. Finn Balor will always be known as the first WWE Universal Champion, but Kevin Owens is the longest running Universal Champion due to the fact that Finn was forced to relinquish his big red title the night after he won it.
Balor commented on the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast that he was shooting for a WrestlMania return, but apparently those goals might have been exceeded. PWInsider is reporting that Finn Balor is scheduled to undergo medical testing this week. If he passes that medical testing then it would mean that The Demon is cleared for in-ring competition once more.
Since the Royal Rumble is this Sunday this couldn’t come at a better time both for Finn, and the rumor-mill.
