Finn Balor has been the face of NXT for months now, and he’s been the man to beat because he is the current NXT Champion. But today is a big day for Balor because he has reached a huge milestone in his career as he officially tied Neville’s reign as NXT Champion.
Neville defeated Bo Dallas for the belt at NXT Arrival in February of 2014, and he went on to hold the title for 287 days to become the longest reigning NXT Champion of all time. Finn will break Neville’s record tomorrow when he reaches his 288th day as champion. Balor won the NXT Championship at WWE’s Beast in the East special in Tokyo, Japan when he defeated Kevin Owens on July 4, 2015.
The NXT Championship was created in 2012 and Seth Rollins was the first man to hold the title and he held it for 133 days. Seth won the belt on July 26, 2012 when he defeated Jinder Mahal in the finals of the Gold Rush Tournament to crown the inaugural NXT Champion. The episode of NXT which featured Seth’s big victory later aired on April 29, 2012.
The NXT Championship has been held by 7 men since it was introduced in 2012, and so far no one has held the title more than once.
