The COVID-19 pandemic drastically changed a lot of things in 2020 and the wrestling industry had to make some huge shifts in regard to how it operates. For the 2020 Money in the Bank premium live event WWE decided to film the men’s and women’s ladder matches in a cinematic style at their headquarters in Stamford, CT.
Nia Jax recently reflected on the 2020 Money in the Bank premium live event during a virtual signing hosted by East Coast Autograph Auctions and she noted that filming almost got shut down by the Governor of Connecticut.
“This was from the COVID Money in the Bank. Oh! That was a fun one, the theatrical Money in the Bank that we had. That was so much fun, where we almost got shut down by the Governor of Connecticut. They were knocking at the door, the police were knocking at the door, and somehow, we were able to still shoot it, and get it done!”
Nia Jax was released from WWE in 2021, but the former Raw Women’s Champion made her return to the ring earlier this year when she competed in the women’s Royal Rumble match. While talking about the return Jax admitted that she was worried no one would remember her.
“I’m glad it was a surprise for everybody (2023 Royal Rumble appearance). I was actually really happy that people remembered me. I was nervous right before I walked out like, what if nobody remembers me? And I walked out in the Rumble and it’s dead air.
No comment (she said when asked why her music played before the timer hit zero). I can’t say. I know, but I can’t say. But let’s just say somebody was super excited for me to be back and prematurely hit my music. But they were really happy I was back. Let’s say that. But that’s all I’m gonna say (she smiled). They (some fans) were hoping it was more of a permanent thing… I almost cried myself. I was nervous, a nervous wreck.”
