Jinder Mahal has been WWE Champion since May of 2017, and he’s been on a roll. Mahal has successfully defended his title against Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura, and on Tuesday night he’s going to defend the WWE Championship against AJ Styles on SmackDown Live.
Fans were quite surprised when the WWE Title match was announced for SmackDown Live this week, as originally AJ Styles was booked to face Rusev with a spot on the SmackDown Survivor Series team on the line.
Tuesday’s title match is a pretty big deal, and there’s a lot of speculation going around regarding who will be walking away with the gold. BetWrestling.com is reporting that initial odds for the match had both Mahal and Styles set at -120. However, AJ Styles is now a slight favorite at -155 with Jinder at +115.
It’s important to keep in mind that even though AJ is favored to win the match at this point in time, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be walking out of SmackDown Live as the WWE Champion, as there’s always a chance the match could end in a DQ or count out.
Either way, the match seems to have big implications as Jinder Mahal is currently booked to face Brock Lesnar in a Champion vs. Champion match, and Styles winning the title could change the match.
Regardless of who wins, WWE has set up an intriguing title match for this week’s show.
