Enzo Amore might be the Realest Guy In The Room and WWE Cruiserweight Champion but the flu bug doesn’t care and you can’t teach that. Amore was recently out of action due to a nasty illness that not only caused him to have to postpone his Cruiserweight Title Match against Cedric Alexander but it also made him miss P Diddy’s big New Year’s Eve shindig which is also a huge shame for Enzo.
But the Smack Talker Skywalker is apparently all better now because he’s scheduled to defend his WWE Cruiserweight Championship against Cedric Alexander this week on Raw. However, he was still pulled from the upcoming WWE Mixed Match Challenge slated to begin on January 16th.
This groundbreaking tournament will mean a lot to WWE as a company and could help shape where they take their product for years to come. After all, Facebook Watch is a rather daring prospect for WWE but if it goes well, it might dictate the way fans will consume WWE programming for years to come. But alas, Enzo won’t be a part of it.
Some fans speculated Amore losing his spot for the MMC was a punishment of some kind. But the fact is they were taping promo packages backstage with the teams to air during the Mixed Match Challenge and Amore simply couldn’t make it. WWE didn’t let him in the building because they were afraid he would expose someone to the bug he was stricken with.
Therefore a decision was made to replace Amore with Apollo Crews. Therefore, it wasn’t a dig on Enzo at all, it simply came down to logistics on a production level.
The Mixed Match Challenge is going to be pretty cool, to be honest. With teams like Alexa Bliss and Braun Strowman, Charlotte Flair and Bobby Roode, Sasha Banks and Finn Balor, Lana and Rusev, Naomi and Jimmy Uso, as well as Nia Jax and Apollo Crews who knows what could happen during the 12 episode run of this show?
But Enzo Amore will be watching from the sidelines because of that flu bug he suffered over New Year’s Eve.
